There are many things to think about when you want to start playing the drums. It's not an easy instrument to just pick up and play. You're using both your hands and your feet, playing complicated rhythms. Add to that the loudness of the instrument when practicing and you will face many challenges. Here's some pointers on getting started with the drums.

## Getting the Right Teacher

First and foremost is to get a teacher that is passionate as well as knowledgeable in drums. This will boost your confidence and knowledge and help you become really good on this exciting instrument. You should be trained to learn diverse types of music including jazz, rock, etc. Even if all you want is to play the metal genre, it is important that you learn a variety of chords in order for you to get strong basics, that you will be able to apply to your chosen musical path.

When you enroll in drum classes your trainer should be teaching you general music theories as well as theories specifically on drums alone. You should be educated in a wide range of musical chords and learn to read musical notes in order for you to turn into a good musician while allowing you to work more efficiently with other musicians as well.

## Exercise

Many people who have been able to grow into good solid drummers have been a bit obsessive about practice. Especially if they studied online drum lessons they would so often have sticks in their hand and from their rooms you would hear the tapping of the practice pad. A practice pad is a rubber pad that gives a somewhat similar response to a drum surface. During your drumming lessons you will be learning many fundamental rudiments and skills which can be practiced daily on a pad. In this way you can get a lot more practice time in, without having to be behind your full drum kit.

## Purchasing a Drum Kit

For beginners, there is no need to fork out a whole lot of money to buy a kit. Beginners usually either practice with electronic kit which goes well with headphones or a classic acoustic kit. Acoustic kits can be quite deafening so you might want to consider practicing in a room that is considerably quiet and separate. Begin with the traditional 5 piece kit which has a floor tom, cymbals, kick drum, snare, and 2 toms.

Rocking drums is a fantastic way to unleash your creative side. Look for a good teacher, keep on practicing, and get the appropriate drum kit. You will soon want to look for a few musician pals, jam and create the next music sensation the world has yet to see!
