As is to be expected, there are many different astral projection techniques which people can use in order to help them astral project. Of course, because all people are different, it only stands to reason that while a certain technique may work for one person, it may not work for everybody. Strangely enough, most people who experience difficulty, do so because they are unable to relax sufficiently, rather than because of the techniques not working.
One thing you need to bear in mind right from the very beginning, is that total relaxation is essential, irrespective of which technique you choose to use. Unfortunately, because there are still many misconceptions regarding astral projection, many newcomers experience a certain degree of fear and this in itself prevents them from being able to relax. Contrary to what you may have heard, one cannot be harmed and neither can you die from astral projection. In fact, the Canterbury institute even went as far as doing some research involving 2,000 people, in order to squash such fears.
In fact, the Canterbury Institute used 2,000 volunteers, all of whom participated in astral projection, and of course not one of those people were harmed in any way after following the various astral projection techniques. More importantly though, the Canterbury Institute followed all the volunteers for the next three years and during that time, none of them reported any problems and neither did any of them have any complaints.
So, now that we've managed to brush aside any fears related to astral projection, let's take a look at some effective astral projection techniques which are relatively easy and which have helped scores of people. The first technique, known as the 'Monroe Technique' consists of seven basic steps.
* Relaxing mind and body. The simplest way to achieve this is by practicing deep breathing, in addition to relaxing all the muscles of the body one at a time. You can do this by tensing and then the releasing them, starting with your toes and then working your way up through the rest of your body.
* The hypnotic state of mind. This is simply a state of mind when your mind and body are right at the very edge of consciousness. In other words, you are right at the verge of going to sleep but it's imperative that you do not allow yourself to actually fall asleep. This can be achieved by using what is known as the 'gazing method', where one focuses on an object in the room as you lie on your bed. Your aim should be to be able to see the object even when your eyes are closed.
* When you reach a point where you can still see the object even though your eyes are closed, then you need to deepen your current state of mind even more. This can be done by looking around the room while your eyes remain closed. Amongst other things, you may very well begin to see some light patterns and even a sort of purplish haze inside the room. This is perfectly normal and there is no need for you to pay much attention to it. Instead, once the light is no longer visible you can take that as a sign that you've entered a deeper state. In all probability you will be so relaxed by this stage that you'll hardly be aware of your physical body at all. It should be mentioned that according to the Monroe technique, this is extremely important.
* This next step which revolves around a state of vibration is extremely important according to Monroe. Also, most people who are involved with the actual projection to indicate that these vibrations become noticeable in the early stages of projection. In fact, it is said that these vibrations signal the time when your astral body begins to separate from your physical body. This is a perfectly normal phenomenon and as such, there is no reason for concern.
* Controlling the state of vibration. In order to do this one needs to focus on the vibrations and attempt to move them through your body. In other words you should aim to feel these vibrations throughout your body. When you reach this stage it should feel almost as if there are waves washing over you, but it is important that you continue practicing until such time that you can bring this on at will. When you reach a point where you can bring on these waves whenever you wish, then you're at a stage when you're ready to leave your physical body.
* One of the most vital components to astral projection is having sufficient control in order to ensure that it's your mind that is in power. In order to strengthen your existing level of control, Monroe recommends that people practice partial separation. Here again, one should focus on leaving your physical body although in this case, you should only allow your hand or foot to go. Try to stretch your hand or foot out to towards an object which is nearby and then go ahead and push your hand or foot straight through the object. Once you manage to do that successfully, you can allow your hand or foot to return to your physical body and then you can go ahead and begin slowing down the vibrations in order to end your session.
* In this last step you will get to separate from your physical body. You can simply follow all the steps already mentioned but this time, instead of only allowing your hand or foot to leave the physical body, you will allow total separation. Apart from a minor adjustment, this is virtually identical to step six. In this case you need to imagine that your body is weightless or that it is made up of feathers and that they are being blown around in the wind. As your astral body starts leaving your physical body you should begin to feel as though you are flying or perhaps floating.
Other popular methods include techniques such as the gazing method, the anchor method, and the rope technique. Ideally, one should spend some time experimenting with the different techniques in order to establish which technique suits you the most.
What you do need to bear in mind however, is that not everyone can astral project immediately simply by using one of the techniques mentioned above, because after all, it does take practice.
For those who don't necessarily have the luxury of time, modern sound technology has provided us with a rather impressive shortcut. This shortcut makes use of different sound frequencies known as binaural beats, in order to induce a meditative state of mind which is ideal for those wanting to practice astral projection. Essentially, when these beats are played into each ear, it results in the two hemispheres of the brain becoming synchronized, and a meditative state follows almost instantaneously.
One can also opt for hypnosis recordings which have been designed to assist those interested in astral projection. These aim to reassure ones subconscious mind that it's perfectly acceptable for one to leave ones physical body.
It simply cannot be denied that astral protection is a life changing experience, and this is something which anyone will attest to once they have experienced it. Fortunately, it is something anyone can do, particularly if you use one of the many techniques available.
