Lucid dreams are the dreams that a person experiences while he is aware that he is dreaming. The actions, situations, and people around him are not reality but mere imagination. People indulge in learning various tricks to have lucid dreams and also to remember them.

Lucid dreams are a good source to get pleasure. Lucid dreams are also an effective way to rid people of their nightmares and help them live a normal, fear free life. Some people also learn these techniques so that they can give some expression to their wildest fantasies.

Like any other process, the process of inducing lucid dreams also contains a few steps. The first step is to do reality checks at different times during a day. This helps a person in knowing that people around him are real. Then, a person must maintain a dream journal or a diary where he can write down his lucid dreams to be remembered at later stage.

To have a lucid dream at the right time, one must be well aware of own sleep patterns and schedules. Many people try to remember their lucid dreams as they provide exhilarating pleasure to the person. During these dreams, a person is well aware that he is dreaming and there are no social or physical consequences of whatever is happening in a lucid dream. Being aware of own sleep patterns help a person to have a lucid dream without any disturbance.

In most cases, a person will have a lucid dream right before he wakes up. To have a lucid dream in final moments of sleep help a person also remember it. In some other cases, a person gets a lucid dream during a nap a few hours after he wakes up in the morning.

There are cases when people have lucid dreams just after they fall asleep. These dreams are a cause of concern. In these cases, it is advisable to consult a sleep medicine specialist.

To have lucid dreams and remember them one must sleep at least for about two hours. This is because most lucid dreams have duration of about 60 minutes. If a person is working on dream recall, trying and waking up during such cycles is an effective way to do so.

There are others techniques such as MILD, WILD, and WBTB that people use to remember their lucid dreams and also to get these dreams.

MILD or mnemonic induction of lucid dreaming was created by Dr. Stephen LaBerg. Wild or Wake Induced Lucid Dreams is good for people who are familiar with meditation.
