Last night, when I was reading my email through my iPhone app (when I was on the can if you must know), I had 13 different emails from readers of my website wanting to know exactly what the process of copying Wii games entails. So, as a result, I spent the rest of the night putting together this guide. Enjoy!

Now, in years past, you had to put in a mod chip in order to play ripped games. I wrote about mod chips previously, in this post. Essentially, a mod chip is a special type of computer chip that you have to install inside your Wii console. This involves breaking open your own Wii, which unfortunately voids your warranty.

Nowadays, there is a more sensible choice. Some enterprising programmer developed a software application which will basically remove the security off of Nintendo wii games so you don't have to mod your own Wii at all in order to play the duplicated video games.

So, before I get in trouble for being too wordy, here are the instructions:

One:

Obviously, the first step is going to be to find the game copying software. Just Google the phrase "copy Wii games" and it should be one of the first few results. Save the file to your hard drive on your PC.

Two:

Now, if you've ever installed a piece of software on your PC before, you should have no problem with this step. Just double click the file that you downloaded, and accept all of the default settings. (You know, just click next, next, next, ad nauseum). It'll let you know when it's finished.

Step Numero Tres:

Think carefully about which your fave game is that you would like to backup first. Take it out of it's case. While holding it in your hand, move your arm toward your CD or DVD burner on your PC. Insert that bad boy.

Four:

Start the game clone program that you just installed. (Simply double click the icon within the desktop)

Step Numero Cinco:

Now, you need to rip the game disc that you chose in a previous step. What you're doing here is to copy what's called an ISO of the information on your game disc to a location on your PC or Mac. Select the extraction or copying option within the copying app (the verbiage will depend on your version) and tell it where to copy it to. (I suggest the local drive at the root).

Step Numero Seis:

Copy complete. Right? Now, I need you to get your keys and get in your car. Go to the nearest electronics store and purchase a pack of the best blank CDs or DVDs that you can afford. Drive back. Pop open a soda. Ok, now, remove the Wii game from your PC's burner drive. Insert the blank disc. Within the game copy application, go into "write" mode. Start the burn.

STEP 7

Sit there for a few minutes and twiddle your thumbs. Or look at a magazine from under your bed. I don't care. Point is, the burn will take about 15 minutes, so just chill for a few. When the app pops up a screen saying that it's done, and plays some cheesy music, you'll know that your game has been burned. Try not to do a happy dance. Now, put the master copy of the game up somewhere safe.

Which means that you now don't have to be a computer hardware hacker or even void your warranty just to back up games as is your legitimate right. Simply just adhere to these instructions, and you will be fine!
